Loft Conversion
Project Description
Like many families in Stanmore, our clients had reached a familiar crossroads — they loved their home, the neighbours, and the street where their children had grown up, but they were running out of space. Moving felt unnecessary and expensive, but staying meant they needed to think smarter about how they used their home.
The answer came in the form of a loft conversion — not a grand design, but a clever one. What was once a dusty, unused attic has been transformed into a bright new bedroom with an ensuite, creating the perfect retreat for the oldest child approaching their teenage years. It’s now their own space to study, unwind, and enjoy some independence while still being close to family downstairs.
The project shows how a modest addition can completely change how a home feels. Natural light floods through new dormer windows, and the careful layout means every bit of space is put to good use. The clean, modern finishes tie in seamlessly with the rest of the house, making the new level feel like it was always meant to be there.
For the family, this loft wasn’t just about gaining another room — it was about making their home work better for them without having to leave behind the memories they’d built.
At Don’t Move Extend, we understand that not every project needs to be large or luxurious to be meaningful. Sometimes, it’s about creating that extra bit of space that makes everyday life easier, calmer, and more enjoyable.

Case Study
Located in Stanmore, North West London, this project demonstrates how a standard semi-detached home can be reimagined through a straightforward yet effective loft conversion.
The existing property had limited space for a growing family, so the focus was on converting the unused roof volume into a fully functional new level. The design introduced a rear dormer to expand usable floor area, achieving comfortable headroom while maintaining external balance with neighbouring properties.
Inside, the new floorplan includes a double bedroom and ensuite, with the staircase aligned directly above the existing one for efficient structural integration. Built-in eaves storage and subtle lighting solutions help the space remain uncluttered and calm.
Externally, materials were chosen to blend seamlessly with the existing roof tiles and façade, ensuring a cohesive appearance from street level. Modern anthracite-framed windows enhance the dormer’s proportions while giving the rear elevation a refreshed, contemporary edge.
This project embodies Don’t Move Extend’s ethos: thoughtful design that maximises potential, respects its surroundings, and adds value — both emotionally and practically — to everyday family life.
