Project Description
This detached bungalow in Staines was reimagined as a contemporary two-storey home through a carefully designed loft conversion and internal reconfiguration. The existing attic was transformed into a new upper floor housing three generous bedrooms, made possible by raising the roof height to unlock usable volume and maximise natural light.
Downstairs, the layout was completely opened up to create a modern, flowing living space—seamlessly connecting kitchen, dining and lounge areas while maintaining a distinct formal living room. A guest WC and cloakroom were added for functionality, and at the rear of the garden, a sleek outbuilding was introduced as a fully insulated home gym.
This project reflects how even a modest bungalow can be elevated into a stylish, spacious home fit for modern family life—with comfort, practicality, and design at the core.

Case Study
This transformation began with a clear brief: reconfigure a single-storey bungalow into a modern family home without the need to relocate. The main challenge was spatial—how to increase bedroom capacity while retaining the garden and footprint of the existing property.
Our solution involved raising the existing roof to unlock full head height within the attic, allowing for three well-proportioned bedrooms to be added upstairs. This required careful structural planning and early engagement with the local authority to secure approval for height and massing adjustments.
Internally, we reworked the ground floor to support a contemporary open-plan lifestyle, introducing structural steel to open up the central living space. Full-height glazing and oversized sliding doors brought in light and framed garden views, enhancing the indoor-outdoor flow.
At the end of the garden, a purpose-built outbuilding was added, designed for use as a private gym. This was constructed under permitted development guidelines, with careful attention to insulation, wiring, and ventilation to ensure year-round usability.
This home now balances form and function, offering versatility for family life, hosting, and wellbeing. It’s a clear example of how strategic design can future-proof a home without compromise.
