Project Description
This once-neglected semi-detached home sat empty and uninhabitable when our clients — a young family of four — saw its long-term potential. Like many post-Covid households, they needed more than just space: they needed flexibility. That meant two home offices, generous bedrooms, and open-plan family living.
To bring their vision to life, we designed a full double-storey side and rear extension, alongside a bespoke loft conversion. Upstairs now features four spacious double bedrooms and two family bathrooms. The loft? A bright, quiet workspace with skyline views — perfect for working from home in peace.
Downstairs, we created a modern open-plan layout with clear zones for cooking, dining, and relaxing — all bathed in natural light thanks to large openings and glass elements. A second home office, guest WC, utility, and dedicated plant room complete the ground floor, giving the family both functionality and comfort.
The result is a home that’s not only bigger — but smarter, brighter, and built for the way families really live today.

Case Study
From the outset, this home presented a complex brief: how do you futureproof a property for hybrid working, family life, and multigenerational comfort — all within the constraints of a semi-detached footprint? The answer lay in clarity of purpose and sequencing. Every decision was underpinned by the goal of creating intuitive, flexible space that could adapt to changing routines.
Structural interventions were carefully choreographed, particularly the double-storey side extension, which required party wall coordination and clever placement of steelwork to open up the footprint without compromising integrity. The loft conversion was treated as a separate retreat — acoustically separated and bathed in natural light, with concealed storage solutions and minimal material finishes.
Material choices leaned towards longevity and low maintenance: large-format porcelain tiles, matt-black hardware, and joinery in muted greys. Lighting was used not just functionally but emotionally — stair LEDs, pendant fixtures, and wall washers articulate movement and soften transitions between zones.
Beyond its visual appeal, the real success of this project lies in how well it supports the rhythms of a busy household. The result is a home that responds — not just impresses — and shows what’s possible when architecture meets everyday life.
