Double Storey & Loft
Project Description
This home was transformed with a double storey rear extension and loft conversion, turning a traditional property into a spacious and light-filled family home.
The rear extension has dramatically improved the ground and first-floor layouts, allowing for an open-plan kitchen, dining and living space with a seamless connection to the garden — ideal for modern living. Upstairs, the additional space provides larger, more functional bedrooms and bathrooms.
The loft conversion adds a further level of practical living space, perfect for a guest suite, home office, or private master bedroom retreat.
A great example of how targeted extensions can add space, value, and everyday comfort without needing to move.

Case Study
This project began with a clear client goal: to upgrade a traditional semi-detached house into a modern family home with flexible, long-term space. Early consultation revealed the need for both ground-level connection to the garden and expanded private spaces above.
The proposed scheme included a full-width double storey rear extension and a loft conversion. The design significantly enhanced the ground floor with an open-plan kitchen, dining, and family space—flooded with natural light via large-format glazing and a central rooflight. A contemporary kitchen island became the hub of the home, designed for both hosting and daily use.
On the first floor, the extension allowed us to reconfigure the layout, creating more generous bedrooms and upgraded bathrooms. The loft conversion introduced a new ensuite bedroom, cleverly using the roof volume to add value without overwhelming the original house profile.
Planning was secured with minimal revisions due to the project’s considered scale and material continuity. Construction was completed efficiently, with site levels and rear landscaping adjusted to create a flush transition from inside to outside, enhancing the usability of the garden terrace.
The end result is a home that respects its suburban context but feels brand new inside—proof that a well-planned extension can transform not just the building, but the way its owners live in it.
