Single Storey Rear Extension
Project Description
The current property is situated in the Borough of Hillingdon, in Northwest London, and comprises a detached two-storey single-family dwelling with an attached garage, an existing loft conversion, and partial single-storey rear extensions, surrounded by spacious front and rear gardens.
While the property was well-maintained, the owners faced challenges with limited space on the ground floor for everyday living and entertaining. Their specific needs included a luminous open-plan extension achieved through a modest expansion and the removal of internal walls, fostering an airy and expansive ambiance.
Our proposed solution involved the construction of an infill single-storey rear extension, characterized by a gabled roof and full-height glass bifold doors. This design choice aimed to flood the rear aspect of the property with abundant natural light. The strategic removal of internal walls facilitated an open-plan layout, resulting in a space that exudes brightness and warmth. Incorporating natural and rustic finishes in the design achieved a modern aesthetic with a touch of traditional charm for the property.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum

Case Study
With a clear brief to improve functionality and inject character into a well-maintained but underused ground floor, this project evolved through close collaboration with the homeowners. Early design work focused on spatial efficiency—strategically removing internal walls to liberate flow and reconfigure how the family used the home day-to-day.
The gabled roof became more than a visual statement—it allowed for dramatic ceiling heights and skylights that channel natural light deep into the plan. Glazing was carefully specified to balance openness and thermal comfort, while the bifold doors offer seasonal flexibility, opening fully in warmer months to create a seamless indoor-outdoor experience.
Internally, the choice of finishes was as deliberate as the architectural form. Brass fittings, chevron flooring and a layered palette of whites and natural textures give the space both elegance and warmth. A hidden bar cabinet—bespoke and integrated into the new layout—adds a playful, unexpected feature, speaking directly to the clients’ passion for entertaining.
This project shows that thoughtful interventions, even modest in scale, can completely transform how a home is experienced. It’s a celebration of smart planning, natural light, and crafted detail—all tailored to the lifestyle of the family who lives there.
